History
In the late 1980s, the community and governments were concerned with the number of young adults at-risk. In 1989, the federal government called for proposals to approach this need. The ALC (previously Multicultural Enterprises Inc — MEI) submitted a unique concept which in 1990 became an operational program in the city of Regina, Saskatchewan.
Throughout the years, the young adults provided the stimulus to keep the ALC evolving to better meet their needs and challenges.
1997 was a critical moment in the life of the ALC as the private sector accepted the challenge of becoming investors with the ALC and joining the public and community sector as investment partners.
In 2005, the ALC celebrated 15 years of success with an average of 83% of the participants completing the program, while 73% moved directly into employment or post-secondary education. |
