Youth In Need
When the basic 'growing up' environment is denied, for a variety of different reasons, rejection and marginalization can be experienced.
REJECTION AND MARGINALIZATION ARE THE DEADLIEST EXPERIENCES FOR A YOUNG PERSON.
If one wants to steal the spirit of youth, dreams and self confidence from a young person – make him/her feel rejected and marginalized. When this happens the symptoms show up in the following forms:
- Low level of education: have experienced difficulties with learning, have experienced repeated failure in learning and are generally learning wounded.
- Low self-esteem & personality problems: they feel less important than their peers because they are not working and are out of school; sometimes they are disruptive, rebellious, and have discipline problems.
- Socially segregated: they are members of impoverished communities, broken and dysfunctional families, often not encouraged to high aspirations.
- Economic depravation: no job, or locked in temporary low paying jobs, no money to do anything, no clear goals.
- Motivational problems: suffer a loss of motivation, do not feel like doing anything – worthless, hopeless, and hostile.
- Tendency towards self destructive behaviors: drugs and alcohol, violence on oneself and others.
